The winery

The name of Beronia linked with the history of the land upon which it sits. In the third century.C., the area known today as La Rioja was inhabited by the berones, a people celtic warrior, whose first villages in Tricio, Varea and Leiva, demarcaron the limits of the region Beronia, what is now La Rioja.

Beronia it is founded in the year 1973 by a group of entrepreneurs, friends, and in 1982 is integrated into the “Family Wineries of Gonzalez Byass”. Today, Beronia is a winery with a Spanish reference to both national and international level and develops its wines in the most pure and traditional style of Rioja with their own “personality” and “style Beronia”.

This winery is situated in Ollauri in the heart of the Rioja Alta. In this area, we find different microclimates depending on the orientation of the vineyard and of the protection against the winds of the valley of the Ebro. Soils, are the best for the viticulture of quality, and have a balanced structure of sand, silt and clay, being slightly alkaline and poor. La Rioja offers a great variety of “terroirs”, that bring great complexity to the wines and a distinctly differentiated.

Surrounding the winery are twenty-five hectares of its own vineyards. Further, the technical team of Beronia controls eight hundred seventy hectares of vineyards specially selected, situated in a radius of ten kilometers, and out of which fifty are of more than sixty years, being the average age of the vineyard around the 30 years old.

All the grapes used in the wines of Beronia are obtained from vineyards that are carefully selected, parcel by parcel. The agreements with the more than two hundred wine growers that provide them are long-term and constant cooperation throughout the year. Beronia has vineyards prefiloxéricos of more than a hundred years as well as vineyards planted when it was created in the cellar, more than forty years ago and the new planting of the spring 2011.

The grape varieties with which it works the cellar are authorized in the D. O. Ca. Rioja, finding Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo, Garnacha and Viura. It is remarkable that more than eighty-five percent of our vineyards are planted with noble red grape variety “Tempranillo”.

The top performance are of 6.500 Kg. per hectare for red varieties and 9.000 Kg. per hectare for white.

Further, Bodegas Beronia promotes sustainable agriculture at all levels, and the protection of environment is a constant, further, some of our vineyards are classified as ecological.
